Bruno Barreto is a partner of LDCM Advogados. He has extensive experience assisting clients in transnational disputes, including arbitration and court and administrative litigation. His practice focuses particularly on contract and corporate issues related to various sectors, such as M&A, Banking, Capital Markets, Oil & gas, Construction, Real Estate, Telecommunications, and Technology.


Bruno is a partner at LDCM Advogados and has extensive experience advising clients in arbitration and judicial litigation, particularly in transnational disputes. His practice focuses on cases involving contractual and corporate matters across a range of sectors, including energy, oil and gas, construction, infrastructure, mergers and acquisitions (M&A), banking, capital markets, real estate, telecommunications, and technology, among others.

His excellence in Arbitration and Commercial Civil Litigation is recognized by leading legal rankings, such as Chambers and Partners (Brazil Contentious, Regions and Global), Legal 500, Leaders League and Análise Advocacia.

He holds a Ph.D. in International and Comparative Law from the Universidade de São Paulo (USP), an LL.M. from New York University School of Law (NYU), and a law degree from the Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio).

He is also active in academia. He serves as Deputy Coordinator of the Study Group on Arbitration and International Trade Law at PUC-Rio, where he also teaches International Commercial Arbitration and International Contract Law.

Before joining LDCM Advogados, he worked in the Litigation and Arbitration practice of Mattos Filho, Veiga Filho, Marrey Jr. e Quiroga Advogados. He also has relevant international experience as a foreign associate at Covington & Burling LLP, in Washington, D.C., where he worked in International Arbitration.

Selected relevant cases:

▪ Representation, together with another Brazilian firm, an English firm and a U.S. firm, of a multinational company in a dispute with a major Brazilian investment conglomerate regarding the acquisition of a Brazilian pulp and paper company valued at BRL 15 billion, including several pre-arbitral injunctions, an arbitration administered by the International Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) and an arbitration administered by the Câmara de Arbitragem do Mercado (CAM).

▪ Representation, together with a U.S. firm and an English firm, of an oil company in an arbitration administered by the London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA), seated in Paris, France, and governed by the UNCITRAL Rules, involving the validity and enforceability of a forfeiture clause included in a Joint Operating Agreement (JOA), valued at approximately USD 600 million (approximately BRL 3 billion). This case was awarded Deal of the Year – Disputes in 2021 by Latin Lawyer.

▪ Advising one of the largest multinational technology companies in the world in proceedings before the Supreme Court of the Netherlands (Hoge Raad der Nederlanden), governed by Brazilian law, involving allegations of violations of Brazilian antitrust law, valued at approximately EUR 300 million (BRL 1.8 billion).

▪ Representation of a Brazilian pharmaceutical company in an ICC arbitration conducted in English and seated in São Paulo, involving breaches of representations and warranties granted under a Share Purchase Agreement, valued at approximately BRL 1.3 billion.

▪ Representation of one of the leading multinational hospitality companies in several lawsuits filed in Brazil seeking the termination of international timeshare agreements, involving a potential exposure of BRL 400 million.

▪ Representation of one of the largest oil companies in Brazil in 12 LCIA arbitrations seated in London and governed by Brazilian and English law, involving alleged breaches of oil sale and purchase agreements, as well as advising the client in three proceedings before the English courts involving the same commercial relationship, valued at approximately USD 100 million (approximately BRL 550 million).

▪ Representation of one of the largest Brazilian healthcare conglomerates in an arbitration administered by the Centro de Arbitragem e Mediação da Câmara de Comércio Brasil-Canadá (CAM-CCBC), involving claims arising from alleged breaches of obligations under a Share Purchase Agreement concerning a group of major hospitals located in São Paulo, valued at BRL 400 million.

▪ Representation of a U.S. media conglomerate and a Swiss investment fund in two arbitrations administered by the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) against Hungary, relating to the expropriation of two radio stations, valued at EUR 25 million (approximately BRL 150 million).

▪ Representation of the Brazilian subsidiary of one of the world’s largest retail groups in an arbitration administered by the Centro de Arbitragem e Mediação da CIESP-FIESP (CAM-CIESP-FIESP), involving a corporate dispute against the former manager and controlling shareholder of a joint venture, including claims for directors’ liability and abuse of controlling power, valued at BRL 38 million.
